Sorry for the downtime but these kinds of server outages are beyond my control. I rely on my webhost to take care of these problems. From what I understand, they are shorthanded this week.

I opened a trouble ticket around 6:00pm EST and they have just gotten around to looking at it.

This is the last report I got..

Server is up, but we have noticed some services aren't responding correctly. Our admins are working on it.

So, there could be more downtime.

Thanks for the update, Tux!
Things are working, but definitely slower than normal.

Just got another update. It looks like all the services are now up and running. Once the backlog of server jobs is complete, the speed should return to normal.

I spoke too soon. There are still problem.

My resource configuration is corrupt and it's showing I have 0kb memory at my disposal and only 10 entry points. GC will run like a dog until these issues are resolved.

Any chance that in future you could use GimpChat's twitter feed to let us poor lost souls know what's happening? ;)

I actually thought about it, paynekj.

I didn't really have anything to report, except that the server was down, but you already knew that. :hehe

I guess I could have said that a trouble ticket has been submitted and I'm waiting on a response.

Does that fit in 140 characters?

Telling us that you know there's a problem and it's being resolved is exactly the point. Every time GimpTalk goes down there's silence and consequently the expectation that it's not going to come back this time.

I only mention it because it's done at another forum I'm a member of, and it's quite reassuring :)

Well, you do make a good point, paynekj.

In the future, I'll send out what I know via twitter.

Hopefully, the site won't just disappear. I mean, even if I have a heart attack and keel over, surely Oregonian & the rest of the staff will keep it going. :smiley2

Come to think of it, I should probably give my hosting account & domain registration info to Oregonian, just in case. I ain't gettin' any younger. :hehe

oh gimp chat, how I missed you! I agree that a twitter mention would be reassuring.

Or even/and a facebook note. Never go to twitter these days. Am nearly always at facebook though when not here. Is there a facebook page or group for Gimp Chat?

Can a FB page contents be seen without a FB id?

Thanks for the heads up Tux; wonder what happened and thought some folk at GIMPTalk was going to start a thread over there about GIMPChat. lol

Seems the site is ubber responsive (i.e., fast) right now; even faster then usual. Hope it stays that way. :)

On Facebook you can make pages that aren't persons. So you can have a public page for Gimpchat info without even disclosing your own real Facebook name. In case your privacy/anonymity is a concern. I'd totally follow your page too, you got your first like right here. I can't stand Twitter.

If there is a problem in the future, just check GC's Twitter feed for updates. No login required.

I guess things are getting better.

Yeah; tried about an hour and a half ago and got the same weird error as yesterday. Glad that it didn't take long to recover this time. Hope the folks that control your server gets things figured out soon Tux. :)

I'm a little concerned, actually.

I frequently read though the webhost's support forum and over the last two years, the service and support has gone down hill. Up until now, I've avoided most of the problems. I've had the same account for 7 years but a few months ago, the host moved me to the "cloud". That's when the problems started.

The webhost has acquired several new companies, and grown in other ways, but it doesn't appear they've kept the necessary staff to keep things running well. On a well supported server, the reboot would have taken less than an hour, instead of three. It's better than 12 but the truth is, the server probably shouldn't have crashed to start with. Crashing twice in a 24 hour period could be a fluke, but more likely, it's due to lack of proper maintenance.

I hope I'm wrong about that but one thing I can't tolerate is a yoyoing server. If this continues, I'll be on another host in short order. :hehe
