erisian: the euclidean polar one has a really cool effect, like sheets of paper floating on top of eachother - was there any transparency in your original image, or how did that floating effect come about? love the droste too! is that your circle from the "useless" thread in greyscale?

I don't want to be a spoilsport but strictly speaking that's not droste.
Sure it's beautiful.
Hope I can show you where the word came from.
The nurse is carrying a tray with a box on it with the same picture on it.
Droste was a chocolate and cocoa company in the Netherlands.
So the same picture is repeated endlessly within the picture.

I like the Droste and the Reverse Polar Erisian. The Reverse Polar I see as a zoomed in take of the path that is outlined by the Droste.

Gerard - I'm ignorant and I just used the filter name having used Mathmap's Droste filter on a pan-to-bow circle.

AnMal - There wasn't any transparency - that is just the effect of the euclidean to polar filter. It was also a totally new image.

I know droste is in gmic but the effect is more like Escher.
I'm a purist as far as the use of words is concerned,old age I guess.
Escher was a Dutch draftsman (if that is the correct English word).

I'm a big fan of Escher and I've seen gmic's droste but haven't played with it much. I can be something of a purist too but in the end I give in to loose speak simply because it's the easiest way to communicate. Draftsman is the correct English word. Thank you for the correct definition of droste.

gerard82: i had no idea that's where the name of the droste effect originally came from, but every time i've seen it mentioned here on gimp chat i've thought of chocolate .

gerard82: no, as a child i had no idea there was anything like droste chocolates, but i bought some on the ferry when i made my first journey to france as a teenager and these days you can find droste chocolates in any big swedish store.

We're getting completely off topic of course but I apologize for inferring that Droste didn't exist anymore.
In the US they were not allowed to use the package with the nurse so they had something with a farmer and his wife in traditional Dutch peasant dress.

erisian: sorry for getting off on the chocolate track, coffee man! i won't do it again after this post, scout's honour (and i actually was a scout once)!

gerard82: the packages i've seen don't have that design either. they have a plain kind of logo with a picture of some sort of castle or something and pictures of the chocolates on them. i don't know much dutch design, but scandinavians are usually convinced there's nothing as "top notch" as scandinavian design .
