The foreground select tool is the one from Jan Ruegg, ported to gimp-2.8.5 month ago...
So its not sooo new, but much better than the old one.
Cage Transform works for me, astonishing fast... I compiled with option fast-math and tree-vectorize,
maybe even mtune=corei7. Maybe theres the problem? Maybe try older gegl?
The one included is the newest from git, with the new gegl-sc, dependig on poly2tri-c

Can you give me a tutorial on using the new fg matting and fg selection tools? :)
When i first start them i get the selection tool and after i select an rough area around what i want to extract and hit enter it paints the selection. Then it gives me the fg or bg option to paint. So i paint in what i want to select and hit enter. I get an empty layer. Isn't the tool supposed to give you a paintbrush when it starts? So you can paint what colors you want selected.

Here are Molly's and my toolboxes. Molly has v2.8.2-1 and I have v2.8.2-5

Both have the FG select tool icon in them.

Yes, but look closely. Rod has even two FG select tool icons... The blue one is the known FG select tool, based on the siox alghorithm. The red one is a different FG select tool, based on a matting alghoritm, which was first realized by Jan Rueegg in a gimp-2.7.3. I ported it to 2.8 with the permission of Jan Rueegg. In gimp-2.10 there will be a gegl operation for the same purpose.

The old fg select tool works perfect. The new one still only selects the area i paint and not the selected colors.
What am i doing wrong Onkel? :)

The usage:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkQ1r5g49d4 or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0UULj6zdK4

What I added:

Color opacity. When you are ready and have the first result, you can enhance it by marking foreground and background until you are satisfied. Sometimes it is hard to see, if all marked is optimal, so the color opacity helps for that purpose.
Tool control. These are parameters within the algorithm, all initialized to 10. Jan said, leave it there, but you can play with it to change the behaviour of the algorithm.
Create selection: The result of the algorithm is a new layer with the cutout. But often I need a selection from it. So I made this possible. Jan said, thats no good idea, because the selection is rough. If you change visibility of the result layer you will see, that the algorithm changes colors in the border area of the cutout object. So the selection cannot be exact. But with the selection I can easyly create a selection mask.
