Thanks Rod. I should have thought to do a search before I asked. :)

Please, ofnuts, can you post the gtkrc you're using as a theme, because it appears that your GimpSpinScale uses a kind of glow and this is something I really like to do in a theme I'm building, hoping it's not platform dependent.

My long-time setup is still visible on the gimp.org homepage:

Image

It's for an old version of GIMP now, but the principle is there. Linux, using dual screens and a sane windows manager that allows multiple windows without clashing with anything else (KDE at the time of this picture I believe, these were 4x3 monitors too, these days I use widescreens).

Since I use dual screens I prefer to have the canvas alone on one screen without any distractions. All the interface is on the right screen. These days the linux wacom driver is no longer as conveniently allowing to switch tablet between screens by just going to the edge (a feature that once was far better than the Windows driver equivalent although I never heard of anyone else using it). So in light of this I might change this setup to a workflow on one screen using keyboard shortcuts and the TAB key to hide the interface instead (I use that in MyPaint and Krita lately and it works pretty well).

Nice. Thanks for sharing. Looks like this ol' thread has resurfaced, gaspsed some new life back into it.
Any of our newer members like to share too?

I use default 2.8, about the only variation is adding or removing dockables and tabbing the windows. A curious question for the multi-monitor folks; when you load Gimp does it automatically populate all your monitors from your last session?

Would be curious to know how more Gimp User use dual monitors... Do you have to disenage single window mode? Do you lose tabbed view? What's your work flow?

Personally, my setup is nothing special and is more so how my docs are arranged and what my default dialogs are in those docks.

Currently... Two docks in the left sidebar with toolbox and brushes being the default dialgos. Then two docks in the right sidebar with layers and historgram being the default. Histogram is a nice dialog to have on all the time because it will give you a quick heads up to banding and white balance issues. It also is nice to look at before and after with many post processing methods so you really know what's going on.

Navigation would normally be a great dialog to have up by default, but with my new mapping of the middle mouse button wheel to the zoom function, this is redundent as a non-keyboard option to pan and zoom.

My set up is just like Akky's....the McGimp single window set up. It works fine so never had a reason to change it up.

I like that Chris...How did you get your gradients below the patterns and brushes? I like the idea of everything being on one side, it gives more room to have a tutorial or something open beside it.

There's a major drawback to me, because you'll probably end up with much more clickwork with a 2 boxes setup, like switching to layers, find layer, switch to tool option, adjust tool option then switch to layer again etc. I'm even curious to hear how Chris F find this setup useful as I see only one case where such placements would be 100% efficient: Single layer project.

Well, what i really like on the GIMP interface is the flexibility. When i need just 2-3 Layers and test some brushes or experiences this "all-on-one-side" system is great. When i create a complex manipulation with many layers i put the layer-tab to the right side.
Or when i want to paint, the setup is different again. Hey, that is GIMP...it is sexy and i know it! :hehe
