Thanks for the heads-up!

Image

I tested Gimp 2.8.6 with, G'MIC, PSPI, GAP, GEGL and MrQ manager, no issues yet!
I can't remember, is the File | Close View | Save as & Close without saving option new?

Yeah; I got a heads up from a newsletter from GIMPUsers and installed it when I got home from work. G'MIC still works (which is all that matters to me; lol). :)

Sort of ready, something is ready but is not specified if is a 32 or a 64bit version

If not specified it is usually a 32bit build, that will work even on 64bit machine but with severe limitation (i.e. if you install in a computer with 10GB Ram, gimp would be able to access and use only a little part of it )

and since most of laptop and desktop are now at 64bit and graphic edit may require a lot of ram , it may be the case wait for a 64bit version

Personally i hope for a 64bit portable version ...:cool

I believe the Windows installer is both PC. If you have a 64-bit OS, it will install the 64-bit version of GIMP. :)

Hi there,

why is the fontconfig folder now defaulting to the TEMP variable in Windows?

With 2.8.4 the fontconfig was in %APPDATA%\LOCAL\

This is kinda breaking GIMP for me as I have the TEMP variable pointed to a RAMDisk. GIMP is also crashing if the folder doesn't exist after a restart. Is there any way to set it back like it was in 2.8.4?

Thanks in advance and kind regards.

C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\share\xml\fontconfig\

Thanks. I believe changing:

<cachedir>WINDOWSTEMPDIR_FONTCONFIG_CACHE</cachedir>

to

<cachedir>LOCAL_APPDATA_FONTCONFIG_CACHE</cachedir>

in the C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\etc\fonts\fonts.conf file should do the trick.

Any info why this change was made and if its ok to change it back manually would me much appreciated.

Rod the installer only replaced the 2-8-2 I had in C:/program files, I did not interfere with any of my other Installed Gimps

I just installed this version and it kinda screwed up my menu layout.

In single Widow Mode, when I set the pattern tab to "view as grid", it stretches it way out and I can't use my mouse to drag it back to where I want it. It seems like there is a hard minimum number of horizontal patterns in a row, which is 17 at the default preview size.

It's the same with gradients. The minimum is 11 at the default preview size.

Must be a new bug in single window mode. I can just go with "list view" so it's no biggie.

Good news for windows users like me : the insane tearing and slowdown when you were panning your images has been fixed.
To test if i wasn't dreaming, i loaded a 2048x2048 texture i have worked on in 2.8.4 and had me nearly throwing my monitor through the window due to how annoying the problem was and .. wow ... no tearing and no lag at all
I started to pan at high speed with moving my mouse all over my desk to check and no, still no slowdown or tearing.

I nearly had a little tear of joy in the corner of my old eye :D

Fantastic work at fixing this one, it was the only real problem i had with the 2.7 and 2.8 serie, but now with 2.8.6 i'm a happy window user again, like i was with 2.6.x :)

Oh and i downloaded the one linked on the gimp.org website in case the other links point to a different build, this one is really solid for window users :
