I just updated to GIMP 2.8.6 on Windows 7 64bit, and once it had installed I tried to use G'MIC 1.5.6.1 beta (64bit) to edit an image. The plug-in crashes with the following message:

gmic_gimp.exe - Application Error
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application.

and also the following GIMP Message:
Plug-in crashed: "gmic_gimp.exe"
(C:\Users\username\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins\gmic_gimp.exe)
The dying plug-in may have messed up GIMP's internal state.
You may want to save your images and restart GIMP to be on the safe side

So I basically uninstalled GIMP 2.8.6 and have gone back to 2.8.4, and GMIC is working again.

By the way, the GIMP installers I'm using are the ones at gimp(dot)org

Does any one have any clue as to what might be up? Obviously I'd like to be able to update GIMP to the newest version and still use the newest GMIC

Interesting... does this happen while gimp is loading, or is it after you apply a filter? If it's a filter is it just one specific filter or all of them?

On first run of GIMP 2.8.6 the plugin does not appear to crash. However when I open up an image in GIMP and attempt to click Filters > GMIC, the filter crashes before it gets the chance to open up, GMIC does not appear, just the error messages. No other plug-ins or filters are affected.

So, I shut down GIMP, and restarted the application, but this time during GIMP's initial plug-in scan (while the splash screen is showing), the plug-in crashes before GIMP launches - when GIMP eventually opens, GMIC is no longer listed in the Filters menu.

How very odd :shock:
It could be related to the build, I'll try it with win7x64 v2.8.6 tomorrow if nobody else beats me to it - I don't have enough time right now I'm afraid :(

No problem, that's very kind of you to offer to help. I think it might be related to GIMP 2.8.6 itself, because the plugin is working for me with no problems at all in GIMP 2.8.4

You definitly have a problem with your install files,I have the official gimp 2.8.6 64bit loaded, and have no problems with gmic 1-5-6-1 from SourceForge.

I have the same issue - GMIC 1.5.6.1 beta (64bit) with Gimp 2.8.6
I have a small SSD as my C:\ drive and so usually install to a larger HDD F:\ drive.
Neither C nor F install worked and the error messages are the same as Billps.

__==__SOLVED__==__

I copied the extra dll files

libgcc_s_sjlj-1.dll
libpng15-15.dll
and
libstdc++-6.dll

into my ~User\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins\ folder from an unzipped copy of the gmic_gimp-2.6_plugin version.

G'mic 1.5.6.1 beta (64bit) is now working in Gimp2.8.6 on Windows7-64

As I gather you have the full version of Gimp 2.8.6 loaded to your C:\program files using the installer from Gimp then what Gmic files have you loaded

I'm glad I have been :ninja

I installed everything from the gmic_gimp_1.5.6.1_beta_win64 folder (two dll files, gmic_gimp.exe, and the _gmic folder and contents) into my ~\USER\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins\ folder.
I then copied the 3 missing dll files from the earlier g'mic_gimp_2.6 folder as mentioned in my post above.
It started up, updated filters OK and seems to be fine.

Hope this helps :-)

EDIT::
OK, I had to start up my windows7 machine again to check - the 3 extra dll's are here:
gmic_gimp_1.5.5.1_win64\gmic_gimp-2.6_plugin\

Hey thanks keevee09 - absolutely wonderful!!! Can't thank you enough - however you managed to work that out is anyone's guess but WELL DONE!!!

I copied pasted the missing dll's from the previous G'MIC 1.5.5.1 (GIMP 2.6) 64bit version of the plugin, into my plug-ins folder, and voila it works!!!

libgcc_s_sjlj-1.dll
libpng15-15.dll
libstdc++-6.dll

Still a puzzle though and no doubt warrants further investigation. I mean why should GIMP 2.8.6 require the extra DLL's but GIMP 2.8.4 doesn't? How very odd - and Graechan seems to have it working without them on his 2.8.6 installation - even odder.

Hi,

I'm running GIMP 2.8.6 on Windows 8 and had the same problem in getting G'MIC to run. The only thing that worked was to add the following 3 files to the plug-ins folder as described in the previous post(s). I added the 3 files and it worked, then checked by removing the 3 files and it didn't work. Added again and it worked.

libgcc_s_sjlj-1.dll
libpng15-15.dll
libstdc++-6.dll

Thanks so very much for this great info!

I'm trying to install the 64bit version of GMIC and it is not working giving the same error about the missing dll. I have never had GMIC installed before. Is there anyway the missing files can be added to the zip downloadable zip directory?

I had this same issue until I copied a bunch of dlls (don't ask me which ones; lol) where G'MIC was loaded. This was a while back with 2.8.2 as I recall. :)

No problem here but maybe because i have gmic installed in a separate folder and to update i just overwrite the old files with the newer

Doing this i may have preserved the old dll, if missed in the new version ,and without even noticing

Does anyone know where I can get the installer for the 64 bit version of GMIC one version before the latest (which doesn't work for me) as a stopgap until 1.5.6.1 is updated with the missing files?

You did not even specify if for windows, linux or mac

For windows check older post in this forum, for the other OS browse the gmic page on sourceforge (looking in "File")

BUT is the first time you install gmic ?
IF you did before, you already have the "missed" dll installed , that are not changed and you may update to the last version without problem.

Hello. I tried to install gmic today for the first time and I had the same problems. Here how I fixed it. (I am on windows 32).
When lauching the install program, I noticed that the program install itself in the admin/gimp-2.8/plug-ins though I was launching it from my user account.
Checking the files, I saw that everything was in but not in the user account : user/gimp-2.8/plug-ins.
I then installed it in user/gimp-2.8/plug-ins but then to my surprised I saw that some files were missing as said in the previous posts. I then copied all the .ddl files to the user/gimp-2.8/plug-ins. (Rewriting the existing .dll and adding the missing ones of course). And tadaaaaa...Launching gimp, everything was working fine and gmic working without trouble.
I hope that helps.

Sorry I'm using Gimp 2.8.6 which I downloaded from sourceforge which was linked from the gimp website and I am on Windows 64 so that is the GMIC plugin i'm trying to use. This is the first time I have installed either program or plugin, so I don't have the required dlls. I tried looking for an older version of the plugin to use, as opposed to 1.5.6.1 beta but the download links seem to be taken off old threads announcing the older versions.
