I'm starting to make a video game and I'm planning to use Gimp for all the art. I'm hoping to learn how to use Gimp better along the way. I've heard of it being done once https://indiegamemagazine.com/articles/when-lucas-the-game-started-a-subculture.html, but is Gimp really capable enough for most people to make professional game art with? I'm a decent artist on paper and drawing pad. My art style will be 2.5D and I'm planning on making a survival game with aliens. Has anyone here tried it or know of any tips or good tutorials?

GIMP can definitely handle professional-quality game art,
especially if you’re already good with a drawing pad.
With the right brushes and layer setup,
you’ll be in good shape.

Maybe this link will give you some ideas:

Thanks Wallace. The thing is my drawing pad is not up to par for game development or comics or anything really. It's been acting wonky lately. I hopefully will get myself a better one soon. In the meantime, I may draw on notepad and scan in the line work. Then maybe I can fill in the colors using the selection tools, and go from there with shading, highlights, and texture.
