Where the moor meets the sea along the rocky coast lies the ruins of a castle. Alone it rests on its cliff just off the coast. Rumor has it that within its echoing depths, a long-dead heroine was buried alongside her mighty weapon. A fine prize - if it's true. But that ancient rope bridge doesn't look very safe. And what is that wailing sound above the wind?

Before I read the description the image evoked the feelings of the prompt. Well done Griatch!

Just saw both how to train your dragon movies yesterday, this looks like it could be part of the viking town as a concept painting. I like it!

Good atmosphere... but, while I understand that if the painting doesn't need to be vertical(*), the horizon and the verticals need to be somewhat perpendicular, and here I see a gigantic tsunami coming from the right...

Also, it misses a dragon

(*) and in that case, it is in the gray area between not-vertical-by-accident and not-vertical-by-design

I've only seen the first one but I can see what you mean, the vikings do live off a dramatically high cliff, so this could be some side building!


The color scheme and type of style did aim in that direction so it's great that you think so too!


The reason for the curved shape is that I was sort of aiming for a fish-eye effect with a strong foreshortening. Don't think I pulled that particular effect off, but I sort of liked the weird touch the curves it give to the image. I agree that the sloped horizon it may also be interpreted as a tsunami though. Others have also pointed out the lack of something wicked and fire-breathing (and Moko refers to How to train your dragon), it's interesting that a dragon is something people associate with this!

It's indeed intended to be an eerie atmosphere. The story this is from also has rain but I felt it better to not add too much details at this scale.
