Hey Lyle,
I'm not an expert on flowers (though I love taking pictures of them), but I do know what these are. They're pansies, and from what I'm told, they are quite hardy.

yes, they are pansies and they are quite hardy. Ours survived winter and are in full bloom now. The bottom picture looks more like Hosta leaves, though.
