Yes a different pattern but a bit different technique also.
I wrote a script for just the steel text effect.
You just need to create a text layer and run the script.



I am still working on the shredded look for another script all together.

You need layerfx.py for this script to run correctly.I will post everything in it's own topic under scripts and plug-ins.

ooooooooo, I like the beveled brushed chrome but you know most me prefer bronze.

I am actually looking for a script that does that exact type of beveling right now so can't wait.

Hey Z. I believe all Rod used for the bevel part was the Python based Selection Bevel script. He has it on his site http://gimpscripts.com/2011/10/selection-bevel/ and it's at the Registry as well. Great script.
