mughal style really dug it's claws in me :). i made the basic pattern using the paths tool and then i stroke the paths with a pattern i ran through the metallic colours filter in g'mic. i like the texture that filter gives, so i use it a lot. the bigger pattern that blends into the background was an earlier version, it's a bit simpler. and for once i didn't use pink or purple!

edit: something happens with the colours of this when i upload it to gimp chat. maybe it's something to do with my display settings on the laptop, but my original is a bit brighter and the focal pattern stands out a lot more from the background. i upload an edited version that will hopefully look a bit more like the original.

the pattern looks pretty complex when you have a longer look at it !
did you make it just for fun or do you want to use it for something special ?

and how do you actually work on such a pattern so that its seamless in the end ?

Like the design, the colours all work well together, I also like the blackish outline of the design you have embedded into the background.

esper: i almost never think of using my patterns for anything before i make them, i just can't not make more beautiful patterns. but i actually thought i could post this to my spoonflower account and maybe have a piece of fabric printed from it, i'll just have to make sure i get the ultimate colour scheme first. i think it could make a beautiful fabric.
seamlessness on patterns like this is a piece of cake because even if i wouldn't want to use any filters i could still use a layer offset and paste in another pattern unit. i nearly kicked myself when i saw i've missed a step on this one, though: the background pattern isn't seamless - i usually make sure it is, but i forgot with this image i forgot. another piece of cake to fix, though.
he4rty: thank you! but does the embedded outline really look blackish? i really have to change my display settings, because it's made to be green.

erisian: thank you, i'm glad you like it.
he4rty: that still sounds a little darker than i see it on my screen. seems i'll have to do something about my settings.
