Looks like Droste can actually do Doyle better then I though. Clicked the show both poles option and fiddled with a few more settings and voila. Did convert the flat white disk to the marbles using Plastic or Glass Script-fu and a few G'MIC presets.

Do you think this could be applied to text?

Cool ! i often use the option to show both poles ,but here there is the plastic look and the depth to enhance the effect ,nice and clean

Thanks for all the comments; apologize for not responding earlier, but, I had to take a boot camp and then a test in order to keep my job (and I passed with flying colors. ). Anyway, check to post below for some hints; the glassy effect, again, used Graechan's Plastic or Glass Script-fu mainly.

Well, this is as close as I could come to compacting the spaces and I had to do some editing of the Mathmap Droste preset itself in order to achieve this. Still not 100% happy, and, if I try to add Graechan's shinyness to this one, it converts to a blob. lol

No Gram; the result is straight out of Mathmap (except the rounding of the balls; used G'MIC, and several other things to get that). Started out with just white disks. I'm going to experiment a little more to see if I can get the 2 poles closer together, but a little bushed right now.

Again, I edited the Droste preset (set both the starting level and number of level ranges to 100 (the defaults are way too small). If you choose the show poles option, Number of Levels equals 2*Starting Level. try 40 for Number of levels and 20 for Starting Level.
