Another in my "Closeup" series. This time the Unknown girl from Where Red Apples Lie. Note that I didn't aim for "realistic" skin colour here, rather I've aimed for a colour scheme similar to the comic. In the end it also means that the various "Closeups" have a very different visual apprearance. Feedback appreciated as usual.

MyPaint + GIMP.

In my opinion this is your best closeup yet, i can almost feel the emotion you put into it. The unrealistic skin color really fits here. :D Amazing work Griatch!

griatch: this is my favourite of the close ups too! i love how you got the same colouring as in the comic. the colouring in your pictures of the unknown girl does a lot for the atmosphere, i think.
the hair is lovely too, it reflects the colours of the background beautifully. doesn't the upper part of her face look a bit on the broad side, though? or maybe i just think that because part of her chin is cut off and that changes the proportions of the face a little.

Excellent work again. I like the way you do hair. It's obviously simplified but still looks realistic. You're good at ears too. I do most of the face without reference but when it comes to ears I need a photo to work from.

you captured her individual look perfectly, I recognized her immediately even before I read the text.

Thanks for the coments and feedback everybody!

It's interesting how so many seem to think this to be the best of the close-ups - despite the extreme coloration and the fact that she's hardly "pretty" in any conventional way. I tend to refer to her face as "interesting". :)

@AnMal
I see what you mean about the broadness of the upper part. I think the broadness is an illusion from the hair strands being shaded a little inconsistently, I'll try to fix that, thanks!

@AnMal:

Darkened the side of the face a bit, this is something which is visible on my laptop but not on my main workstation screen - the laptop is clearly brighter. Anyway, the effect of her face looking a bit too broad should hopefully be gone now.

I think each close-up image is different not really a BEST one, They all fit in their own way. ;)

I do really like this one though, it seems to really express your comic-ish style while still looking like it's gonna express emotions before your eyes. As for looks, she's pleasant to look at, she's just sad, I'm sure if she were happy she'd be more "attractive"...I'll hug her for you!

Nice work! ;D
