I grew up in NJ, and the Jersey Shore was a big part of my life. I always loved the art style of those cheesy souvenir postcards, and wanted to try the photo-to-painting tut, too, so I combined them with a photo from a friend and got this:

Since I can't post the links, you can find the tuts here:

making-a-watercolor-paint-photograph-in-gimp at scottphotographics dot com

and

design-a-retro-postcard-with-3d-text at designinstruct dot com. This is a PS tut, but with help from members here, I figured it out in Gimp. Please be gentle, this is my first real project in Gimp.

That is very nice sb158. I have spent lots of summers in Jersey. We went to Asbury Park every year and swam at Keyport Beach. I have lots of nice memories of it.

lettering is perfect for the style , and the imagine works well
The only thing that didn't convince me fully are the highlight on the black area (but they work well on red and close to the edges )

:) Thanks for the nice comments, guys. As I said, my first Gimp project. Adjusting to the differences between Gimp and PaintShop Pro 9 has been challenging...but I'll get it one day!

Keep up good job! Actually it's quite impressive for the first gimp project.

Nicely done and it's very vintage looking. I remember seeing these types of cards at Niagara Falls when i was just a child.
The only thing i think it needs is depth. An offset shadow (with a 60-70% opacity) under the card would look great i think. :)
I love the color choices.

Can you give me the name of the cursive typeface you used?

Thanks, Rod. I guess I could put it on a white background and put a shadow under it. I use stuff I make as desktops, so didn't really think about that. The font came from the Retro 3D postcard tut via dafont dot com. It's called honey script. I'll attach it for you.
The vintage look came from the texture in the tut and a few gradient maps.

AnMal, thank you! Those postcards were in every tourist trap shop on the boardwalks and beaches. I still collect them when I visit places. Just love them, for some odd reason...

As a permanent full time resident of the Jersey Shore, I can honestly say "I LOVE IT!"
That's "Ole Barney!" One of the Jersey Shore treasures!
Love it!
