Meet Factoid! My Prototype little guy for a mascot. :>
It's just a pencil sketch atm, but I might color him in later.
His thingys that bugs have on their head have light bulbs in them, kinda to represent ideas and also the fact that fireflies glow. xD

If anyone has any ideas feel free to tell!

Update: Okay I "inked" him in MyPaint, which I must say was harder for me, if I do the emotion half I'll probably use GIMP.
Brushes I used was "Gel Pen" and "Inking Pen".

Factoid is very very cute. I saw a firefly once and it made me wonder if that is where stories of fairies came from. I'm looking forward to seeing this completed.

Hmm...It could be, fireflies are cute little glowy things...Glowing pixie dust, flying...fairies..yeah could be.

I'll probably play with coloring him later, it'll keep me busy and not get bored. xD

I saw a firefly the other night walking my dogs... I was completely entranced, so I followed it and looked at it with a flashlight (necessary for nighttime dog walks...)

We have them all over here in Michigan. When i was a child we would catch them and run around with them on our clothes. They only stay lit if you squish them first. Gross i know. I wouldn't do that now but every once in a while i tease the Grandkids with that one.

Very cute But #3 looks so sad.

I like the idea of having a mascot. I have a squirrel that I use on my own site.

We have lots of fireflies in NC.

Yeah I was trying out him having different emotions so I picked sad and angry since he's happy in both full figure images...In a way I'm glad he looks sad since emotions aren't my strong point (as in drawing )...but on the other hand...He's so sad you just wanna hug him.

Ry, the Squirrel works in the subscriptions department, but I'm thinking of having him pose for book reviews, too.

The emotions in the faces seem very clear to me; I think you did a good job with them. Factoid should be on the cover banner.

I will probably after I finish coloring these and seeing how much I like him, I'll have him peeking from behind the banner I have.

A lot of how-tos have icons to point out specific things (I'm thinking of the For Dummies series as an example). I can imagine the various Factoid faces pointing out "warning", "hey! this is neat!", etc. I think it'd be a clever way to use all the faces.

Yeah, if I can stay motivated I'll probably end up making a coloring book or something out of him too, you know to get kids involved also. I want it an all age site.
Ofc I'll talk about stuff my own way of talking and not talk like "hey kids lets color elmo today!" but you know make it good for everyone to be involved and enjoyable!

mokonafan: oh my, he's even cuter than me! i really like him, you made such a great job of the expressions. feels like he has a personality of his own. and i really hope you make the colouring book!

My cousin, brother and I used to do that all the time too Rod. We rubbed them on our shirts and they would light up, but as you said they fade out after a few miinutes. I wouldn't do it now either. I don't like bugs.

Okay, I colored in little Factoid. This is the first figure.
I'm not sure how I like the colors yet, I know the wings are find, but the "skin" tone...idk it seems too yellow but red didn't look good and blue would be too close to the wings...What do you all think?
Skin as in face, arms, and legs, his stomach I like.

mokonafan: you have done a great job on the shading and highlighting (as usual ), but i also thought something was wrong with the skin tone. i think i'd have tried for a pale green tone instead - pale but not too cold. or maybe just a cooler and paler shade of yellow? i also think the glow around the tips of the antennae looks a little strange - it's too dark to be a real glow or something like that.
but i definitely think factoid is going to be a success with your readers, he's a charming mascot and just looking at him puts me in a good mood .

He is so happy, friendly and cute. Nice work as usual Moko!
