Peter - no worries, enjoy yourself.

Pat - OK I will knock something up along similar lines, probably next week though.

Meanwhile, from inside the magic, golden ring mirror, somebody is watching us ...

Spent hours playing around with the path
tool to make a 3D ring and wasn't happy with it.
Then I had light bulb moment. I made this
ring in 15 minutes. It was fast and accurate
and I did not use the path tool.
Totally happy with this one. Now I can move on.

Peter - excellent gold ring, but I agree with you that paths can be both awesome and extremely frustrating.

Here are a couple of different style images, I think my last for this particular thread and hopefully, they still qualify under the gold rings title, as they are designed to fit on fingers..

Pat - some neat golden rings there.

Peter - I had one more set of WIP rings, then saw your focus had changed to cute fauna; so I combined those two subjects ...

@Pat: Love your Midas touch. Nice job OMG.
I'm definitely not done with rings, just wanted
to do something different when I posted the pic
of the deer. I have a finished ring I don't know
what to do with, but I'll figure it out. Really
lovin' all the "ring ideas" I've seen in this thread.

I understand your explanation, Peter. But the most difficult part, in my opinion, is making the rounded edge of the rim.

@Ella:
Okay, I'll do my best here.
Everything is cut out of the same oval shape so I make three or four duplicate layers of the original oval. I cut out the top edge from the same oval shape and fill it with gold. Next, I do another "alpha to selection" of the edge and on a new layer I will "shrink" the selection maybe 1 or 2 pixels and fill the smaller shape with gold again. Then I blur it by 1.5.
Does this make sense?
I'm thinking of making a decent tutorial of this. What do you think?

I'm including the xcf file for your reference. Let me know how you're doing.
Good luck.

Thank you, Peter. But please can't you upload the xcf-file in a zip folder here on Gimp Chat.
It's the second time I get this warning when I try to download from the site you put in the link.
The first time was when I tried to download the splash screen with the fox.

I didn't gave my username or password, neither phoned them.
But it worries me to see that screen for the second time :(

That warning looks like those who hijack your net, never give them information.

OMG and Peter, thank you for your kind words. Also nice if you make your method into a tutorial and remember to include it in the tutorials section so all can find it easily.

Thank you again.
