A small venture into cleaning up jaggy text edges -
You can clean up bad jaggy text by merging the text you want to use (make sure it's black text), with a white bg layer.Then Blur>Gaussian Blur about 10. Then go to Colors>Levels and move the pointers until you get a nice smooth edge around your font.



After that you can Select>Grow if you choose to make it bigger without messing up the smooth outline.
The only problem is you may want to adjust the letter spacing in between the text first (bottom value in text options). Just to be sure the text letters do not meld together.Unless that is what you want.
