Thanks for the warning, Pat. I had the same idea and I would never give that information.
It was not only the window that shows up. There was also a voice that constantly said to not close that window or close the computer and that it all was blocked. Had to close down the laptop with the start button

Sallyanne - now that is a different approach; different is always good

Peter - went back to paths for these, with a modified approach for the edges; again used the silk background you like. I have it in 5 individual colours but they combine/blend well to make many more. Let me know if you would like them.

OMG, what did you use to make the edges on the rings?

Pat - I hope you are referring to the 'miiled' type edges, which depending on your eye/brain co-ordination are either raised from or sunk in to the ring.

I used a selection of the curved ring front and Filters>Distorts>Blinds vertical in white. Then I selected those white stripes, used good old chisel/carve, modified the blend mode and then deleted the white blind layer.

I love those beautiful rings you all created. They are so beautiful in so different designs.

Here's a quick ScreenCap tut on making a gold 3-D ring with engraving using G'mic Render > 3D Extrude....

Racer-x : downloaded it, viewed it and now I am going to play with it.

You were right, it is a very quick approach to making a ring; so thank you very much for identifying this 'new' tool ( to me anyway).

EDIT - first attempt; now to work on how the various parameters impact and also 'sharpening' the text with this method.

I've started writing the tutorial. Tutorials are time consuming. I'm a little hindered by my "non-functioning print screen button." I am working on it however, it's going to be a pdf format.

@Ella: I'm loving this image and not because it's my xcf file. The name "my precious" on the ring is what Gollum called it and the background is a Tolkien map. The image as a whole is "so right." You did a great job on the ring. I like what you did on the bottom back edge of the ring. I hope you do more rings.
