Continuing with my (slow) experiments.
Sometimes you get a not clearly defined color areas structure, like here:

you may try to increate the # of colors; here I brought the # from 24 to 32:

but enhancement is very limited (and G'MIC posterize, which the filter uses, is limited to 32 colors).

See what you get if you choose the EQUALIZE at start:

Certainly the mosaic does not correspond to the colors in the source, but it's really nice (at least to my eyes)

This morning I continue experimenting mosaic of portraits using a few colours.
All the following outcomes are generated using 8 colours.
I also experimented with the 3 options for source colours:
- leave them as they are
- stretch them
- equalize them
This option is used as a pre-process step, before entering the "mosaic" process.
One recommendation for those who like mosaics of portraits:
use always Tecture Look = SOFT
