Dinasset: Sorry I have not been around much. Not having as much GIMP time lately. I do like the impasto images and agree with Issabella that it is best with small to medium brushes. I like the mosaics also, as long as faces and areas are not too obliterated by the lines that it distorts. I guess I go for the more subtle effects.

In my opinion, I prefer the first option, as the feature is more kind/soft. The second one as it takes more colour, this affect to her eyes and no so good. 8my personal taste).

I need to understand better:
-is the cyan appearing in the "white" part of the eyes which mainly "disturbs" the look?
It is in fact a strange effect I do not understand either:
-the layer below has these R,G,B colours: 150,134,110 (almost gray, with a soft "red-orange" nuance)
-the layer above (a copy of the source) has these R,G,B colours: 214,240,239 (almost gray, with a soft "cyan" nuance)
setting mode to "colour" the resulting R,G,B colours are: 77, 189, 193 (very strong cyan) (???)
I have to investigate...

But the rest of the image is really nice, good colour and texture. I think that it is only cyan colour in some parts, mainly in her eye.

I did some investigations, but no success till now; what I can add is that with other images (with evidently different nuances in their eyes), the problem does not appear.
For now I am pursuing the reduction of the darkness and contrast.
I stop for today, a bit tired.

Outcome of this morning play.

Not really understood the cause of the colour problem, but at least reduced the impact.

Not to stick only on that single image:

I do like the lighter color of the mosaic lines, but agree with Issabella about the effect on the eye coloring. On some of your plays it is not so noticeable. Are the other colors in the image making an effect?

As I said I didn't find the real reason for that cyan, hence now I don't move the source on top for colouring; here the "raw" outcome:

Dinasset, I find your first result to be very good on this photo. The cyan colour is really very acceptable and soft. Perhaps your steps are right in that direction.

dinasset: i like that wavy hatching pattern. now i wonder what that would look like in combination with straight hatching, to set different parts of an image apart...
