Warning: crossing your eyes for a long time may mess with your natural ability to focus normally, at least i think so.
This double image if you cross your eyes until the two images merge into one, you can see it's 3D effect without 3D glasses.

I could never do that eye crossing thing,
to be able to see the 3d effect of side by side images.
:(

It means your eyes haven't been trained to be messed up, i have a friend that couldn't do it either.
When I was in junior high school i bought this book full of magic 3d Images that you have to focus behind the picture (the reverse method of crossing the eyes). I trained to view them then for a while i had problem focusing on normal books to read, i was so scared i thought i'd be messed up for life and never tried to look at one of those look behind the image 3d magic posters again.

Yes, I can't do it.

I've seen those kind of images before.

The crossed eye picture does look 3-D when you cross your eyes...and the wiggle gram also has more depth than a regular picture.

woh I just looked up 3D red cyan anaglph images,
Those look hard to produce from a single image...
since on each depth the red and cyan are shifted different.
We could always try to experiment though...
If we have a height map and separated the image into 2 layers, one red and one cyan,
we can always try to shift pixels left / right depending on the height map values...
but with a single image
that might come out distorted
because as we shift left or shift right there might be space between what's shifted and what's not ...

Well... the idea behind the kind of depth-map I'm looking to create,
is based on Black being far away and White being up front or the closest to the viewer.
Such as the colors seen in this image below.
[ Image ]
So far I haven't found anything that would do this.
I have to create the depth-maps manually.

Such as this depth-map made for the image below it...

This is a 2D to 3D conversion created using Gimp.
If you wear a pair of "Red/Cyan" 3-D glasses,
you'll be able to see the 3D effect in this image.

I got my red/cyan glasses... this image looks good like background is good, hand is good, general shape of the head is good but face seems to have concave because of dark spots maybe they're too dark.

All your other 3D images on deviart art are pretty awesome.

I think i like the red/cyan better, the green/magenta seem a little off or not as good for me.

Red/Cyan is the way to go.

Someone shared this on magic-eye thing on facebook: http://www.sun-gazing.com/quiz-magic-eye-find/
I thought i would try to convert them to Red/Cyan 3D images for people who have problem seeing magic-eye by focusing behind the picture.

Some of the images are very hard to look at, while other look really good and it's easy to see the 3D effect.

Probably because i didn't do a perfect job, i like the last one the most it pops out right away.

I can see a cat an elephant and a horse, what looks like some Boxers and perhaps a dolphin.
