rdgracer71, your work is very beautiful. I would like to get the image of the chalkboard without the written to use it with words in Portuguese. Would it be possible? Thank you.

This is just beautiful. Thank you for the blank chalkboard as well.

I'm learning the GIMP features through doing as many of the tutorials posted here as I can. I'd love to know how you did the chalk writing if you're willing.

Cheers,
Margaret

To make the writing I just pick white as my color, and wrote what i wanted to with my mouse and scaled it down to fit the chalk board. then picked a soft brush and lowered the opacity and erased part of the writing. So that some was removed, but still a trace was showing. If you know what i'm saying.

That's pretty cool! I can't use chalkboards; they're too messy. How about a dry erase board, too?

I'm interested in how you made the chalkboard background? How about a mini-tut?

Simple. Use rectangle select tool to make desired shape, fill with dark green of your choice, duplicate layer, change duplicate layer to white, make sure it is on top. lower opacity to desired level and i smudge the white layer in some areas to get the effect i wanted. Just make sure the rate of the smudge tool is low or else the white layer will disappear. after that i used G'MIC to add a frame around both the white and green layer. then made a new layer (on top of all layers) to make the shadow on the inside of the chalkboard (up the left side and across the top for depth). then made a new layer ( below all layers) and create the shadow of the chalkboard it self. That's about it.

Thanks rdgracer71. When I first looked at it I thought you might have used a brush.
I've played with different methods of making a chalkboard mostly with clouds, noise and layer modes.

NP, your welcome. It took me only 10 mins maybe to make it. I saw one on google and i knew as soon as i saw it that it would be easy to make. So i gave it a try.
