Hello,
this is my first try at a using some more of the default tools in Gimp.
First is the image I began with that I downloaded from Public domain website of a girl meditating/thinking.Second is my the image I made using it.
I decided to put a pepper from the brushes into her hand as it looks nice/nature related.

The overall idea was the girl is sitting underneath a tree, but the tree is off the right of the image and not visible as I cannot do the tree yet. This gives her shelter. The tree branches look the same perspective as her. The scenery I painted to look disjointed to her internal world, she is in her internal world and is daydreaming/meditating/pondering. Centre is some little stones/pebbles so she doesn't lose touch with the reality of the world. The flowers that are mauve are Thyme, the blue flowers it is Rosemary, I grow these herbs.
I enjoyed doing it a lot

Not bad, things can only get better.
I wouldn't have had the guts to post my first attempt at something using Gimp.

I thought it was important really as then members can see the level of my newbieness, I am grateful of the time they may use to answer a question I may ask, this way it allows members to determine the amount of time.

The whole tree doesn't even need to be in the picture, as the leaves allude to it's presence. Very nice composition.
