Well, it's been a while since I attempted a portrait, and well, this time this is more of a tribute...
Origa, to those who don't know who she is, is a singer from Russia, she's best known for singing opening songs in the Ghost in the Shell anime franchise, but she also has her own music...Well, I just found out she passed away a few months ago from lung cancer. Often times I see a famous person died and they were old, so it's sad but in a way expected. She was only 44 years old. I'm kinda messed up over this one, so I want to try and make a tribute to Origa....

I'm using a lot of pictures for a reference for her, since she has a very distinct face shape but here are 2 I'm using.

Here's my Sketch:

I am in MyPaint at the moment.

Enjoy!

~ God Bless ~

Very sorry that someone you admire has passed. Your portrait is getting a great start.

Good start there Moko, will be intersting to see what comes of it. I do believe here face is (was) slightly longer than your version, but maybe you are aiming for a more stylized take?

I didn't know Origa passed away. :( The Ghost in the Shell music for Stand Alone complex was for a long time one my favorite pieces of music, all categories, still has a very strong position as some of the best cyberpunk/futuristic music I know. I own the CD even, from a time when CDs were owned. ;)

Inner Universe by Yoko Kanno and sung by Origa, from Ghost in the Shell Stand alone Complex (sung in Russian, English and Japanese):

Yesss! Love that song. :D
I am hopeless in realism so I am doing a more stylized portrait like you said, but I attempted to extend the face a little bit since I saw what you meant. :3
It came as a complete shock to me too, I was listening to a song on youtube and I read a comment...Looked it up and was like WHAT!...Nooooo! D: :(

I haven't abandoned this I just haven't been in the mental mood to paint something properly....Here's what I go so far, but I don't like the mouth it looks too puckered and there's a few other issues I have with it but it'll get itself sorted out eventually! :lol

Don't know who she is, but you do and condolences for the loss for sure and so young too. Looking forward to your final result Moko; your art is one of the best that I've seen over the years. Listening to Griatch's link; very pretty voice and, assuming she's singing Japanese (but to be honest, for this song it could indeed be Russian but I don't understand either language), she's doing a pretty good job at it to my ears (but again, I have no idea how to speak or understand Japanese nor my mother's maiden tongue (Korean).

Thank you...And thank you for the compliment. :D

She's singing in Russian, English and Japanese in that song. She like(d) to mix languages in her songs. She also did softer songs like this:

Hey Moko; one of my favorite TV channels that I watch is NHK World since it's in English. Watching J-MELO now but my favorite program is Cool Japan. Not sure if you ever watched this program channel or not. I like it since I'm very interested in different cultures and it's cool the program is either spoken in English or they caption them if they speak in Japanese (or whatever other language when they interview various foreigners). :)

Still working in GIMP, not sure if I'm going back in to MyPaint or not at this point but okay...I've added some more shading and tried to make more color variation in it, I'm not sure if it fits her more pale skin but I do like how it's going in that aspect. Her mouth is kinda hard (I hate coloring mouths! I really need to watch that Mark Crilley tutorial on drawing mouths. xD...maybe I'll see if I have a tutorial I think Erisian made, still.)....Her hair is coming along, I have it colored like that because of an album of hers. She had hair those colors. Not sure if it was real or done digitally later but I thought it would help making her more identifiable since I'm bad at likenesses. :lol

Still have much to do but okey dokey then! :hehe

Coming alone fine there Moko, fun take to have the hair fan out into green like that. :)
Is there some reason you choose to not have her look at us?

In the end I actually did change the eyes to look more towards us.
I liked the colors in the hair too. :P
