I've been trying to learn how to paint rock faces and water - a basalt island loosely based on this reference photo: http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/pho ... /488932907

The water is really good, just a wee bit too sharp on the horizon. The rocks are good, too, just seem a bit flat around the edges, but I have no idea how to give them a more 3-D look.

Looks like a floating Matterhorn.

Nice work! The only thing I think could use a little work is making the water looks less solid. Still good job.

Excellent painting. Water is difficult to paint and I wouldn't know how to advise you here - just keep up the practice and you will find your own way. Again, you did an excellent job!

@2-ton: Yes I see what you mean about the sharpness of the horizon, there should be some tiny waves, thanks for the feedback .
