I've been trying to learn how to paint rock faces and water - a basalt island loosely based on this reference photo: http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/pho ... /488932907

The water is really good, just a wee bit too sharp on the horizon. The rocks are good, too, just seem a bit flat around the edges, but I have no idea how to give them a more 3-D look.

Nice work! The only thing I think could use a little work is making the water looks less solid. Still good job. :D

Excellent painting. Water is difficult to paint and I wouldn't know how to advise you here - just keep up the practice and you will find your own way. Again, you did an excellent job!

@2-ton: Yes I see what you mean about the sharpness of the horizon, there should be some tiny waves, thanks for the feedback :).

@Lylejk: I just googled Matterhorn and I reckon you're right - I might try painting that one day. Thanks for commenting Lylejk :).

@Mokonofan: You mean maybe making the waves a little bit more translucent and adding more white foam maybe? Sounds good. Thanks for the feedback :).

@Erisian: Thank you for the kinds words my friend, I shall indeed press onwards with my artistic journey as I hope you will too :).
