I shot this butterfly (shallow D.O.F.) today in my yard. It might make a good wallpaper if you like vibrant colors. Yes, it was extensively filtered in gimp..

Not bad but you'll quickly get tired of the out-of-focus wing in the front. For this kind of picture, since you use the Av mode, pick a smaller aperture. All else being equal, at f/16 you would still have shot at 1/250s, plenty enough given you IS lens and you would have got an in-focus wing.

Thanks everyone for the compliments. I'm a big fan of Shallow D.O.F. (dept of field) and will always shoot wide open for hand-held @ 300mm shots like this. I even shoot sports @ F-7.1, because it gives the best compromise between focus and sharpness in available light. I shoot @ F-16 or higher for landscape or moon etc.

My camera also has A-DEP setting which I've only used by accident a few times. It may have worked well here, but I didn't think to try it.

I can't use your SpiderPaint script because I don't have the correct Gmic version. I have v1.6.8 and v2.0 installed in Gimp. I also have v1.7.0 installed in a Krita AppImage.

I'll wait till you update to Gmic v2.0 dependencies.
