It seems to me that gradient maps are very unappreciated, not many people use them. I can never get anything from cooliris to work, it always says it has to install a plugin then when I let it it tells me there isn't one. Kind of reminds me of my ex wife in a way.

Gradient maps require complex gradients, and few people have ever opened the gradient editor...

I associate psychedelic with brighter colors (and black lights), something more along the lines of this:

I must add my credit to dd that created the grid, now i can't find his image but was somehow similar to this

Image
Original (NOT seamless ) for Psichedelic Delice Pattens by PhotoComix_Mandala, on Flickr

except that his had a white BG i replaced the BG with 2 scaled down and mirrored dup, to add more depth with a illusion of prospective...that with a passage with Gaphic Boost was my starting image

and in the set there is even another one that is not seamless

Image
Psichedelic Delice Pattens by PhotoComix_Mandala, on Flickr

but was important because not seamless, all its seams originated new seamless images

Maybe even this

if the image is simmetrical and centered a radial or squared gradient in difference mode may create interesting color effect

the trick for me is the center of the gradient should coincide with the center of the image

here a fresh example i started from

Image
Psichedelic Delice Pattens by PhotoComix_Mandala, on Flickr

a transparent layer on top, in difference mode, and a circolar gradient, tilted by 90° ...well at first the result was not so appealing...

but just adding bit of Graphic Boost and new reflection...

PS i saw only now the 1 bit versions, interesting ..
