Run out of time tonight.
I had a little play from a 'flame' which I created in gimp and come up with
If I can remmeber correctly. I started with a star shaped flame, then made it bolder, continuous droste. Conformal map. Then I ran GMIC's Kaliedescope on it. bumped it through the lighting effects. By this time the background was a colour I didn't want so I overlayed it onto something else. Kaleidescoped using gimps this time a few times bumped again using map bump map so the flame would stand out more. I still didn't like the colour so inverted the colour and I think that is all. Image

started with a flame again tonight. Played with it a little and ended up with something resembling water?

Maybe this is a use more in line with the pattern look: overimposed on one of my "aqua-look" outcomes.
