hy back here...welcome in my labirinths :spring
still playing with the idea of a new filter , maybe 2... :hexer

But i don't want promise nothing the idea seems good but when is time to code .. :gaah

But anyway i want share some idea :blingbling
the original is http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File: ... us_R01.jpg

here i combined gradient norm and the kuwahara filter, the first i used to add white edges (actually green edges i coloirize the layer)

here a attempt for a bw filter, i post a detail only because scaling screws up dithering effects (and that is their big disadvantage )

Another possible "artistic" BW convertion

without dithering (combiing gradient norm and Bw pencil , darken mode )

Image

with extra dithering (as before but for dithering after BW pencil)

Now the 2 in bw combined with the original

well this is simply a soft preset for kuwahara...

Stronger

And this is simply the effect of another nice gmic filter
maybe no much know, is Morphological Operation, this is "erode" with "circolar option"
very nice effect

To the Kuwahara 1 is overlayered the 2nd in BN

now you remember the BW dithered? well that combined with the kuwahara

or with the other without dithering

AARGHH

again just a little variation of the image size and the effect of dithering become a ugly moire :gaah

sorry i don't delete the images even if now looks ugly...may be a warning to never use dithering effect if the image will be seen scaled, :hoh because if scaled may start to look as crap!! :(

I fell in love with the dithering and resized the original bus to fit the dithering.

Here is one result.

I love all of your results PC. Great!
