A Wacom Tablet is a pressure-sensitive pen and pad that features pressure sensitivity. Gimp can use this device to easily draw with a natural feeling to it. The pressure sensitivity will allow you to easily blend things together by pressing on the pad gently to brush lightly in GIMP.

Wacom Tablets go for a pretty good price on amazon: http://amzn.to/pSYB29

Oh I see never used one. They probably can be useful things to have but it's not me in using it. I like to have my imagination run away with colours :D

The best place to spend an afternoon (or couple of days) is deviantart.com. You will not only fins lots of brushes but patterns, textures and a ton of other stuff.

I use a HanWang tablet which integrates nicely with Gimp also. :)
It is sort of like using a pencil to draw on Gimps image window.
One end is an eraser the other for drawing. You use the tip for clicking things you need like a mouse does.
Flip it over and erase with it.
In short it gives you more control than a mouse.

Think of it like taking a pencil and a piece of paper.
The tablet is the paper and the pen is the pencil. :)
The drawing however appears on the Gimp image window.

Thank you for explaining that correctly Rod. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to explain it lol. Do you mind if I use that wording for my affiliate pages on my blog?

frankly, if you know how to hold a pencil you can use a tablet. it's not as difficult as you imagine. however, don't worry about it right now. once you get more familiar with other features of GIMP, you can test out a tablet later
