yes i was even thinking to create a sort of tutorial viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2766 but then i didn't saw much interest so i just posted a end result

anyway the idea is use 2 or 3 pattern of the same size with large transparent area as





each pattern is open as image

for create the animation i used mathmap (distort /enhanced pond ) here a possible result



now just do the same for the other pattern, again each pattern is on its own image

Now use gap
1) image to frames
close the original remain with only the first frame of the image open
2 )move path, use move path to assemble the layers
3) now each frame should have 2 layers , to check if everything is fine you may use Video/playback
If fine do Frames to image to reassamble everything in a single image

then gmic /Array/Mirrored array,
Disable the gmic preview(will slow down too much ) set Input to ALL output to NEW IMAGE mirror XY, check expand...

BTW i was already planning a tut, only problem is that as soon i start the screen- videorecorder, gimp start to ignore mouse command (i click and nothing happens )
