This is an experimental snippet named Level Up, out of another comic project of mine - Shrike - References to Humanity.

This is a little slice-of-life snippet that has no real point or purpose on its own; See this as a snippet in the middle of a longer sci-fi story, so there is no formal introduction of the characters, just dive in. This is page 1 out of 3.

Art-wise, this contains a lot of experimentation. It makes use of a slew of open-source programs:

Makehuman - character prototyping
Blender - character perspective, simple lighting reference
Krita - art placement and some brush background work
MyPaint - Almost all painting work
Inkscape - Text and bubbles
GIMP - cloning, cropping and various manipulation

Original concept is over a year old, finalized over a few days.

Makehuman itself actually tends to produce rather ghastly results in my opinion - it certainly doesn't produce any sort of "realistic" render out of the box. But that is not what I need it for anyway. It is very useful to use it (and Blender) as a sort of digital ley-doll setup so as to expand and toy with more complex anatomical positions for reference. The makehuman rigging is pretty good but it does not restrict its internal rotations of joints/skeletal pieces well - so things can still turn out completely un-anatomical if one is not careful.
