i hardly had any time for gimping or gimp chatting in november and december, but i did take time to make some desktop backgrounds for people as a sort of extra christmas surprise.

the first one is very regionalistic. dalarna, sweden is the province where i grew up and where my parents live and where the whole family tries to meet up at christmas. i had some good pictures of dalarna folk art in my inspiration folder and since i didn't have too much time to spend on the backgrounds i cheated and copied the flowery things (they're called kurbits) and made them all white and traced the contours and main parts of the pattern on a photo of the worlds largest dala horse with the path tool. what took most time with this one was adapting it t many different screen resolutions and aspect ratios, since i wanted every member of my family to get one copy for at least one of their appliances...



the next one was pure improvisation and very fun to make. i was making something that would fit a certain type of music that one of my friends likes and i just went by feeling. it features a part of an old photo i once took under slightly embarrassing circumstances of a backlight on my neighbours car.



the third one was made for another celt wannabee i know and i used a knot i already have posted here on gc, i called it the three ravens. that inspired the gaelic text which is supposed to mean three ravens.

i like mostly the second, when i saw as i thumb i feared was some kind of psychedelic stuff ( i like psychedelic when are idea or feeling to support but is rare...)

BUT once enlarged was much more interesting, quite cool

i like the third too very nice design

the first is less my genre but is well executed

yes create all different screen size is quite a long job, once i requested here a script to speed up the process and graechan provided one
Has a bit of limits (you have to run once for each screen size, will be cool a multiple output to get all possible at once, or at least all possible with the same image ratio ) but anyway does speed up

oh, i don't think you'll get rid of me that easily . and as for aliens abducting me, like you suggested in my christmas greeting thread - the alien is of course me. i'm here undercover and if i disappear for a while it's because i'm busy abducting more earthlings. some of you are trickier to abduct than one might think!

I really love the last one. The animal heads on the knot really make it.

erisian: thank you ! i agree, that's a nice detail. the original was with eagles (i made a t-shirt print for my then boyfriend and he liked eagles), but i did a much better job with the ravens and i like them a lot better.

Anmal, I like all these bg themes, they are so different and yet all well balanced in terms of composition and colors.

My latest desktop background is the names of my children on a spiral that has been kaleidescoped and drosted - 10 times. Finally I framed it.

After doing the names of my children I put them altogether on a white background then after adding as a layer to the spiral layer I 'colour to alpha' so the white became transparent.

I love it sallyanne. I think maybe it would be better though if you gave the other two a little frame around them too, so they won't be left out. Good job.

Doesn't look like I favour one over the others does it? I guess I could have put a frame around them though, but they all got the same time spent on them.
