i had the idea of making my own abc with things that inspire me. as if i'd ever have the patience to complete such a project :)! but there's no harm in starting with the image i thought of first - who knows, maybe someone else will be inspired to make their own?
here's "h" and it's for hexagons. hexagons are of course the most perfect of the geometrical shapes and their extremely useful for example in quilt making or economical packaging and they're always so amazingly decorative.

:clap wonderful

i love hexagons but i find them hard to use

the first patterns i searched for where hexagons, they are on my hd ever since and i think i never found a use for them

your piece looks very seventies and i remember i had one of those psychedelic 70ies wallpapers in my room when i was a kid
i even have a bit of it somewhere stored
i dont know how i survived this eye-attack without harm..... :hehe

there is also a bit of science in hexagons, as in elements

esper: thank ya :)! i use hexagons a lot, draconian posted a lovely hexagon pattern here and i've used it so often i should be ashamed of myself - it's in this picture too, of course, filling the h.
i don't think anyone escapes without harm from the wallpapers of their childhood - i'm probably permanently damaged by ikeas rowan sprigs without even knowing it.

photo comix: i never mind your tweaks, they're always fun to see. nice job, the first one will make a neat pattern. but i'm scratching my head and wondering where the purple came from - i ran it through the symmetrizoscope yesterday and got large purple chunks too, but the original hardly has any purple in it.

i believe the gmic symmetrize filter does also some "pixel stretching" , no sure if was intended or is a sort of bug but in any case may be used creatively :

that purple come from a little purple area that for some reason the filter stretched in much longer stripes
and was "enhanced" by running afterward unsharpmask2 (something equivlent to unsharpmask2 is included in gmic is "unsharp", gmic include several unsharp filters, i refer to that just called "unsharp" ) if used with not too moderate settings unsharp modify also the colours

The colours/hue modification may be easily minimized (using the gmic version simply by apply it to a Lightness ,or even Value or Luminance channel ;
using instead the gimp filter by using on a new duplicate placed on top and then changing layer mode to Value ) BUT since most of times i like that colour/hue modifications i seldom avoid them
(seldom = almost only when using unsharp2 on the skin in realistic portraits where even little colour shifts may result too unnatural)

Found the cause , is not a bug but a option

It depends from what chosen in Symmetrize for "Borders" :
"Nearest" easily may create something similar to a pixel stretching effect

to found i used again gmic on your image ...

photo comix: oh, of course, stretching the pixels would make the tiny purple parties bigger. i really like that last one!

photo comix: hehe, glad to see you're having fun! these were my favourites, i love the "oblique" symmetries. that first pattern looks almost like it could be 3d, it gives a feeling of depth. the last one would make a beautiful pattern fill.
