my big brother and his chinese girlfriend got engaged this easter and i wanted to make a nice card for them. i didn't want it cute, since big brother can't take too much cuteness, but on the other hand i wanted to make it neat and pretty to suit his fiancée. i ended up making something i would like . very AnMal, with a mughal pattern and gold edges - but at least there are no pink roses or anything, so big brother won't have an allergic reaction, and i think my future sister in law will like the ethnic touch.

Two critiques in succession, I am really sticking my neck out now, but I noticed at the edges of the image you can see different amounts of each side of the mirrored patterns.
I loaded your image in gimp and created some centered guides on the image.
It appears to me - of course I may be wrong - but the pattern was very slightly rotated clockwise around the center axis.

Beautiful work and one of my faves. The background texture makes it all the more interesting.

fluffybunny: thank you - wow, i'll tell them you think i should be let loose on their wedding invitiations ! and don't worry about "sticking out your neck", as long as you put your critique nicely and politely in pretty pink colours i'm quite sure i'll survive it! i used the clone layer tool to make the basic pattern unit out of smaller parts and i've noticed before the results of the clone layer tool aren't one hundred per cent symmetrical. i really didn't think anyone but me would think too much about it, though. i'm not changing this one, too much work and i want to send it off, but next time i think i'll use the multi replicate filter instead of clone layers, it gives more exact results though it works a tiny bit slower.
