esper:

that's very encouraging to hear.
yeah, i was actually thinking of the effect in those tuts when i read the flame painter thread. i thought that with slightly offset pats, stroked with a couple of slightly different ek22-style brushes you should be able to get almost exactly that effect.
and i think you're right about the paisleys

.
sallyanne: thank you

! yeah, these colours really sing! btw, i like your new stripey sig!
erisian:

i will enjoy what i do, i promise. i think i had temporarily forgotten how to play, doesn't happen often and always comes as a bit of a shock.
Rod explains the basics in his flame painter thread, but i also did these things: to begin with, i had paths of all the paisleys and the text. then i had a brush made after this tut:
ek22's hair or fur brush and i used brush dynamics that allow me to paint with a gradient (there's a link to a tutorial for this in the thread O started) and i stroked the paths with that brush, with "emulate brush dynamics" checked. then i duplicated the layers and blurred, just like rod shows in the flame painter thread, but i experimented around with opacity and layer modes to get the result i wanted. then i made a new layer from visible, ran that layer through a g'mic filter called "specular bumps" that's found under testing - jayprich. i experimented with the settings there, the point of that step is to get some extra highlights that make the paisleys look glossier. the result (i always make sure it's put on a new layer) is some white spots on a black background, i colour to alpha:ed away the black, set layer mode to grain merge and pulled the opacity down a little.
wallace: you're sooo right there!
