i'm having a period of little or no gimp inspiration :(. chris f:s fake watercolour technique is the only thing that really seems to work right now, so that's why i keep posting stuff of that kind. here's one that i turned into a wallpaper:

i tried to follow some tips from dd in the "more fake watercolours" thread and i like the result. oh, and "madhuri" is madhuri dixit, one of my favourite bollywood actresses.

I feel your images are really cool looking, with excellent composition and I also like your trademark use of paisley. :jumpclap

odinbc: thank you! this took a bit of time putting together, so i'm glad someone else likes the result as well as i :).
sallyanne: thank you, sister :)!
wallace: wow, thank you! paisleys are so great to play with, they look good almost anywhere.
k1tesseraena: thank you, brother! i think you're right about inspiration coming back - i'll just have to amuse myself with other things while i'm waiting.

@ AnMal,
I love paisleys!

BTW, be sure to check your PM's, because I may have something you and others might enjoy having, if you don't have them already.
;)

Love this, especially like the edges faded out. I really must make another one of of these soon!

2-ton: thank you! i used a separate "frame" layer to get the fade to look good and i made a layer mask on it and worked with smudging and brushes on the mask. i look forward to seeing your next one, i really like this effect.

dd: thank you! it was hard to find the right brushes, but next time i try this i will try for a blotchier look on the foreground motif too, that didn't really work here. i have an idea on how to get the paper grain in too, i'm not completely happy with that in this picture and it's the wrong kind of paper texture anyway.

If you want, I can send you an .xcf file of an old project of mine where I think I got the watercolour look done pretty succesfully. It's kind of a big file though, over 100 layers and 50 megs or so...

dd: no, but thanks for the offer :). sounds a bit overkill for my purposes - i'm only after a decorative result and i won't ever be fussy enough about the effect to use up 50 megs and 100 layers.

I need to remember how to make a grunge type background...it's been so long that I sort of forgot, and I have different brushes than I used to have...and I do not need more. In fact, I really need to dump many of the ones I have and never use. I do forget which are the files for the mcgimp I use, I have several gimps stashed on my computer!

OK, finally got one done. I was able to keep the colors grungy this time, lol.
Next one I want to try it grungy but with the eroded edges.
