Everybody! Welcome to the GC cave!

Image

Second combo of the day :hehe

The blurry bokeh background - photography
Billiard balls - Inkscape
Pool table and Gimp Chat Bar neon lights - GIMP.

P.S. And yeah, all drinks on the house!

Edit: forgot to attach files. Here they are
Attachment:
File comment: SVG, XCF and PNG files
GC-bar.7z [1.6 MiB]
Downloaded 210 times

(Note: if you open svg file directly in GIMP there could be some black spots shown - still can't figure out how to get rid of them - open image in Inkscape and convert to png before exporting to GIMP)

Thank you, all!
The g-ball a tutorial thing, all others - my effort (you can tell).
But somehow, the pool table came out better than I'd expected. Just drawing lines in GIMP and blurring.

Now, all I can think about is a mug of beer at the local bar, lol!

Big pool fan; played a lot on my off time in the Engineering dorm back in my college days and even played in a pool league when I lived in Texas. Haven't played in years now unfortunately. Very cool render k1te. Thanks for sharing. :)

Thank you Odinbc, Lyle, Esper!

Yesterday I posted an intermediate result. Since then I've changed Inkscape drawing of the Balls - elevated the i-ball a little bit to give a correct sense of perspective and made reflections of g- and m-balls on i-ball. A couple of other tweaks. Three evenings for the whole thing. Too much time, but hey, I'm still learning.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful drawing and posting the link to the relevant tutorial.
Pity that I can't read Russian, however it seems that the appended illustrations are as significant enough as to allow reproducing the steps of the guide.

Thank you, he4rty.

The pool table was totally my creation. Made 5 basic elements of the pocket in Inkscape,

then used clone, smudge and erase tools in GIMP. Inkscape was necessary because it does a better job at blending colors on microscopic scale (for GIMP it was).
Drawing lines to create boards was a simple task in GIMP. Picked colors with Ctrl-brush from parts of the pitch, drew lines. Simple brown color to draw the wooden part of the board. Gaussian Blurred everything.
The bar picture's from the net.
2 evenings on pool balls, another one on everything else.

Thank you, Gino D!

Here's the Google translation of that website. You can find it under Billiard Ball on the left side.
Clumsy, but good enough to understand the basic directions.
If I make something that is not mine I always say so. :) This is why I always post links to the tuts and attach xcf/svg files of my works.

k1tesseraena: nice job on this! i like how you combined all the elements into this, that's very creative :). i have a request though: could you make a nice corner of the bar for people who can't shoot pool to save their lives and find it extremely boring to watch?

Thank you, alc!
I strongly encourage you to try out Inkscape. Just for the change/fun. The learning curve isn't that steep, given the experience you have with GIMP it is going to be a lot easier than you might think. It is different from GIMP, they complement each other and that's what makes both tools so freaking awesome
