I created my text, duplicated the text layer. Making sure to size the text layers to the canvas. Then I ran the G'MIC 'Light Ray' filter on one of the text layers to create the rays of light. I then did a Color to Alpha' on the rays of light layer, selecting Black to go to Alpha. This left only the lighter rays of light on this layer. I duplicated the text layer once again and placed it over the light ray layer. I then 'Colorized' the light rays to match and lowered the opacity of the text layer that is above the light rays layer.
I also added a few stars here and there.
I hope this explanation is comprehensible.

Tried this out. I need to work on getting the glowing lighting effects but I managed to figure out the basic steps, and work with the light rays in G'MIC. I see now that I should have put a big nova or glow thing in the center! Thanks for the list.
