merrak: i really love the style of that picture! i can see the influence of the old cartoon . it made a nice illustration to the text too. those riddles are far beyond me, though!

I still prefer old fashioned hand-painted animation cells over the 3D stuff. There's just so much character in those older cartoons.



I think I need to go back and make some editorial revisions to the first installment. I just started to find the narrator's voice in this one.

I was a big Little Lulu fan, although it was in comic books. Your pic really does remind me of that style of illustration.

I had a followup illustration of the three stars that I didn't finish in time. In the original cartoon they're Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, and Jerry Colonna.

Here's my take:



I didn't finish Mara, who would've been flailing her arms wildly and fuming while the stars mocked her. [Poor thing, although it would've made a funny illustration].

Omd, to many words and too many numbers!!!
But I have read other things, like the thing with "Filbert". LOL

Now that I think about it, maybe I should have split the post up. That one is 3,705 words, which is pretty long. The story itself is 2,500 words, about 10 pages in a traditionally-bound book, which doesn't seem unreasonable. Until now, I never counted the length of the discussion on the previous riddle. That was definitely longer than I thought.

Somewhere I found a comprehensive list of blogging tips. I don't remember if there was any mention of a max word count.

I kept meaning for Filbert to make another appearance. Perhaps ironically, I never got around to it.

No wonder, I'm not much for keeping my attention very long so yeah... xD

Make Filbert return! And make him green this time! XD

The cartoon was from the period of Technicolor, the color of which seems to be pretty saturated.
