Thank you Molly. I did try earlier (a couple months ago) to make it metallic looking also.
While trying to get rid of the white background of the ivy I made the rest of it transparent which i didn't intend to happen. I only noticed it after I uploaded it.

Well it would certainly look nice sitting on my coffee table.

on the whole I think it is a really nice image but the ivy does seem a transparent in places, if the ivy has its own layer you could duplicate a couple of times and this might thicken up the colour.

Duplicating the layers may make it too dark. I would try an overlay of a dark green colored layer. Make a selection of the ivy and fill the new layer with that dark green color. Play with layer modes and see what you get.

Looks good, definitely more of a metallic look than wicker though. The shadow works well and I think if the background was changed to show some paving slabs or block paving then it could pass for a real photo.

It looks like a brass planter, which I like. To fix the ivy, after you alpha the white, you can alpha to selection the ivy, add a layer under it, and fill the selection with white. That will let your ivy look the way it looked originally.

It looks good, but I think the plant is a little messy and hard to tell where it's growing out of.

I saw it as brass as well. A little tip, for the transparent issue with the ivy. Duplicate the layer a few times and merge it together, select it from alpha, soften the selection and delete the outside to give it a bit less of a jagged appearance. It will make it solid though and help your composition.

I like it. It looks very much like a planter that can be seen in many gardens now.

That's excellent sallyanne. Shadows are rarely opaque though and it would be nice to see some of the floor pattern in the shadow.

I agree with Erisian, the shadow is much too dark in my opinion. I like it a bit more softer also. I love it, it would look nice in my sunroom, but the cats would eat the leaves...

I didn't know how to soften a selection so I did a 1 pixel stroke with a green from the leaves around the ivy. I changed the shadow colour to a dark grey and put the opacity to 70%

Both are really good but the last one is great the ivy looks real now, great colouring.
