Funny how things evolve...yesterday when stroking a gradient, I accidentally set the Gradient Shape to Conical (sym) when trying to stoke a mostly transparent gradient. The results were intriguing.
So today I started experimenting. After a while of trying different things, I created this small conical image to use in my geometric star project.

A short time later I had created these.

I then created some Gimp patterns with my results too,

I have posted these patterns here

Thanks for all your replies...

I am still having fun with that 'cone' I stumbled across, along with the 'packed sprites' filter in G'mic.
I was working through pegleg44's recent tutorial for bevelled stars to create some star sprites which I used to create these images
Enjoy.

Thanks Wallace.
As for the reason the first image speaks to you, you'll have to enlighten me.

Hi Akros, you may download my images as you wish.
I have included a zipped, greyscale version of the star without the background in case you prefer it this way.
Enjoy. :)

It's the overall color of the image that's calling out to me.
