Something I've been working on. Feel free to add it to your patterns, if you like it. It's seamless. Also works really well with metallic gradient maps.

Lyle: Didn't you have a technique that cleans up the center portion of the pinch?

Never found an adequate way of addressing the center distortion from Droste Mahvin. Short of cloning (even that is not adequate for regular patterns like your cells), pinch pretty much is the best way. I have tried dong polar/reverse Polar (clean up the end before going back of course) and even that really isn't that good. Oh well. I will add that GEGL's Mirror preset (only available in 2.7.3) looks promising; result can be made seamless from the get-go too. Unfortunately, Mathmap doesn not have a 64-bit compile. Partha did try, but he didn't have all the pieces together and at that time couldn't get it to compile, so no Droste blend or Sphere. lol

Maybe so Mahvin, but still cool that gegl has such a preset. I don't have GIMP Kaleidoscope plugin (just haven't gotten around to find a 2.x compile). Usually, I like using Mehdi's Kaleidoscope filter (now have to do so using Shellout of course).

You should gradient map the pattern with something metallic, they turn out really nice and silky looking.

I mapped my silver, gold and copper gradients. I need to make a better silver gradient, but I really like the effect. I like this pattern. Thanks mahvin.

Mahv's pattern looks metallic even with a regular gradient. Gradients with dark and light in them seem to work best.
