Some folks will remember I was having a battle with Linux on my spare computer, specifically not being able to get online. It occurred to me last night that I wasn't looking at it the right way and I have it up and flying. I've been installing software and setting up other things but I still have trouble installing things through Synaptic (specifically Cinepaint) and i have to work on that part. It surprises me that some things that cost money on Windows are free with ubuntu, Example is Xara Extreme. I don't understand yet WHY so much has to be compiled and such a fuss made when installing software. Windows installs are so much simpler. But I don't think it will be so bad when I get used to it. It brings back memories of MSDOS. It also seems to me that the Linux screens are crisper and better looking than Windows and there is a lot of software for Linux hat is MUCH better than Windows counterparts.
This isn't really on any topic, I was just kind of excited that I got it working.

I used to be intimidated by compiling software, but the more you do it, the easier it gets. Now I still have probs at times, but that makes it even more fun. I've been with Linux a year, and I don't, for an instant, miss Windows. I teach computer use classes privately and pretty much everyone uses Windows. I get frustrated at times trying to show then how to do something several steps in Windows which could be do easier in Linux.

Linux is cool.

I don't mind some, it just seems that in some cases it's to the point of being stupid unless i'm misunderstanding it. I've been wanting to try Cinepaint but I've been trying to follow the installation instructions for it and it seems that one has to type a whole phone book of stuff just to get it working. Don't misunderstand my reasons, it's not the techy part that gives me trouble, it's arthritis in my fingers that hurts when i do a lot of typing.

Glad to hear that, and that's one of my favorite things about Linux is well everything's free, but not all is open source, most is, but not all.

I can actually get Adobe Flex for free in Linux, but not windows unless you run Linux inside windows like with Ubuntu Portable, or andLinux and install flex that way and run it for free legally.
