Why should i use gimp ? -New user

i'm new with this software... can anyone tell me some recomendations regarding gimp and why you choose it

or are you asking to select your first application for image editing?

At a price tag that can range for $500 to over $900 (US), for the latest Photoshop CS6. It's just out of the budget for most of us, myself included.
Then as a kicker, to be able to add more functionality to the software, you'll need to pay for that extended functionality.
The software is also propitiatory, meaning that the software is owned by an individual or a company (usually the one that developed it). There are almost always major restrictions on its use, and its source code is almost always kept secret.

The price tag alone is a good indication of why most people chose Gimp over Photoshop. Not to mention it's propitiatory status.

diegodeacedo - Gimp is Free not like Photoshop and all the Plugin's are free for Gimp & the Upgrades are free. you can do anything in Gimp like Photoshop. I love Gimp :gimp

Gimp is not only the best free graphic image manipulation program, it has the best support community. Gimp also has some of the best help documentation.
