Posting to request some help on a geocaching puzzle that, from what I understand, has a secret message in the image. And the image was created using GIMP.

Anyone have any idea, using GIMP, to reveal the code?

The code/message will be a series of coordinates.

You can see where the image was manipulated, but how do you see what those manipulations are? I've heard that it may involve contrast, or colours, but so far nothing that I've tried has worked.

Anyone have any ideas or are able to crack this image?

The white spots could be a binary encoding of the coordinates. Any idea of the latitude/longitude range?

The Unhide plug-in definitely does not work for this image. It crashed the plug-in.

I ran Threshold on the image and around 140 this appeared. Scaled up 200% it looks like the code you use on a phone app.

Their size are multiples of 8, their coordinates are multiples of 8, and the file is a JPEG, and they don't look that much like a QR code. IMHO they are just JPEG compression artefacts.

But why the white border, top and left?

Thanks, Ofnuts. I couldn't remember the name QR as my phone is too basic to do it. I don't have any experience with QR but thought it a long shot. I wondered about the white border.
