Here's the thing. I design on a 15' laptop, that I pretty much treat as a desktop pc, and works fine for everything I do, (except 3d modeling) but the problem is when designing. I haft to stay looking at the screen when using it. It'd be so much easier having a tablet pc that supports wacom and designing with that. (aka Asus Eee Slate)

I'm definitely not gonna throw it away, however my mother, and I really don't get along, but designing is one thing we have a huge passion for, so I'll be giving it to her for mothers day.

Try it first... the "pointing device" on tablet PC is nowhere as accurate as a side tablet or a mouse. Not speaking of the somewhat lower screen resolution. I foresee a lot of zooming in/zooming out.

It is a question of learning new muscle memory.

Once you get used to it the tablet is brilliant for anything requiring free-flow shapes.

I say give it to your mother, unless you have another present for her.
Tablets are for sale, mothers aren't. You'll only get one of them in your whole life. Especially if you don't get along those things that you have in common are important.

True. It just takes some getting used to. At this point, I couldn't even imagine going back to using a mouse...

Personally, I've found it easier to keep the tablet on my lap when I draw, rather than on the table, but that's maybe just my personal preference.
