I'm looking for a good Digital Audio Workstation that works well in Windows 10. I'd prefer open source since I don't have $$$. I plan to use it for mixing music for music videos. I am looking for something similar to Adobe's Audition and one that I don't have to sign up for in order to use it or the plugins. I know it's a stretch but any help would be great.

I use Audacity on Linux and it's cross platform. It's open source and easy to use.
Recommended.

I keep hearing about Audacity. Mixed reviews though. One review is that it's not really a DAW to begin with. However, I'm not opposed to trying it out.

A geriatric (he's 90 now) friend of mine needed help recording his records to MP4. I put Audacity on his computer and he was happy with the results. He didn't toy with the anti-pop filters and such but with his hearing, he wouldn't really hear such things anyway. He wanted to play music using thumb drive in his car and it worked like a charm.

I used Audacity when converting all my ancient vinyl albums to MP3. It addressed all problems/defects I found on the old albums. Highly recommended.

I use Audacity all the time, lots of filters, about 50 on my installation, all the usual - fade-in/out/crossfade etc. but it is an audio editor.

For something more advanced: Ardour https://ardour.org/

The blurb: Ardour is a multichannel hard disk recorder (HDR) and digital audio
workstation (DAW). It can be used to control, record, edit and run
complex audio setups.

I looked into Ardour as well. The only thing with that is, it's not free.. only the demo is. I'd have to compile it in order to get the full version.

Sorry, missed that, free for linux not Windows. Audacity is probably more than sufficient for your needs, just does not have a knobs-n-dials interface.

Just for you guys, a very short audio-visual https://youtu.be/4RStQjI0ei0

..and before you say what an awful noise, traditional / Northumbrian small pipes / a jig, Jack Layton /

Lets see youtube claim copyright on that one ;)

made with ffmpeg / Gimp / gmic plugin / BIMP / audacity

edit: Anyone tried this one ? https://www.bandlab.com/products/cakewalk

I haven't tried cakewalk. I want to but I'm not sure if my Intel iCore 3 HP handle it. My screen resolution is 1366 x 678. I don't even know what ASIO compatible hardware is. My laptop has enough RAM (12gbs) and it's got the space 834gbs out of 915.

I don't know if LMMS is kept updated but that is open source. Personally, I use Cakewalk By Bandwagon which isn't Open Source but is free. There are some nice instruments that are optional with it too. As far as ASIO is concerned, get Asio For All. My old laptop is still running Windows 7 and I have no problems with these options.

Audacity should fit all your needs unless you're professional.
I've used it to mix music, create ambient audio backgrounds/landscapes for speech files, audio books etc.
On Linux of course.

I've just had a look into Adobe Audition and I agree with Nidhogg. Get Audacity. It's simple, free and open source and does what you need it for. You don't need Asio if you are just mixixng existing .wav files - it's only to reduce latency when creating new music from an instrument. If you are doing that then Asio For All ( http://www.asio4all.org/ ) is your friend.

One more nice thing about Audacity is that
it is extensible with a load of plug-ins, just like our beloved image editor Gimp.
I've been browsing the Audacity forums now and then and found some great plug-ins written by a request from users
You can find many in the Audacity team wiki page.

Using hardware multitrack recorder, or tascam tape recorder and do keyboard inside the keyboard, so I can't comment on live recording.

What ASIO and what is it used for? Also, let's say that I want to do something like this:
www.youtube.com Video from : www.youtube.com

or this:
www.youtube.com Video from : www.youtube.com

(The videos are not mine. Just examples of what I'd like to do. I'm not sure if Audacity can do the mixing, mastering.)

ASIO is a sound driver that reduces latency. When you play a musical instrument and record it on a computer, there is a slight gap in time between playing the note and hearing the note. This is called latency and can make it difficult to play if it is an audible gap. With ASIO, this can be reduced so that you are no longer aware of the gap and hear the note when you play it.

I don't know what your musical skills are and what you are planning to use for drums. I would use Cakewalk for this because it has a "piano roll" That is a grid that makes it easy to program notes and beats that will play in perfect time. Audacity will record anything that you play in real time but you cannot program precise notes and beats with it. If you are using ready made sound samples then Audacity is enough but if you want to program notes yourself, then Cakewalk is a good option.

Here's the argument against "perfect time"

I play some piano and I know what notes are. I think I found what I need in cakewalk. It has instruments built in. Others, I've looked into didn't. The downside to cakewalk is that they force users to create an account in order to use it. Are there any free/open-source DAWS that don't force their users to create accounts before using them?

You could try LMMS ( https://sourceforge.net/projects/lmms/ ) The last time I used it, a number of years ago, the Windows version was a bit buggy but they might have improved it by now.
