I saw it lounging under a bush this morning. I wish I could have gotten all of it. This particular kind is pretty and only eats bugs. It also happens to be one of the very few snakes that are live born (not from eggs) in the midwest.

Let's hope if keeps to insects and don't decide to eat rats GMS.

it's a garter snake. Not in a hole it would look like This. they're live born and they're born in bunches. This time of year it's rare to walk in the yard and not see 3 or 4 of them. s far as snakes go it's a pretty passive one. We used to pick them an and carry them around in our shirt pockets when we were kids.

I wouldn't want one as a pet ad I don't like people who do have snakes for pets but I don't consider them gross or ugly. They're very neat looking and docile.

the bunnies, by the way are doing wonderfully. My wife feeds them baby formula twice a day.

Not quite the average tiger snake or red bellied black etc etc...

I had a three foot long common garter snake hiding in the flower beds around the house last month. It shed it's skin one day and I measured the length - 35 inches. It's the biggest garter snake I've seen. The snake left after I weeded the gardens - they were badly overgrown and an ideal spot for the snake to hang out.

I think snakes are pretty cool and interesting. I got to touch a snake when I was younger, so I'm pretty much a snake expert. To prove it, here's a story:

Last year, I was walking down the sidewalk when I saw a snake on the ground about 10 feet away. It was a little garter snake, maybe a foot long and skinny, slithering away from me. Snake expert that I am, I jumped, screamed and ran the other way, waving my arms around like someone had thrown it at me.

My boys can't pass a snake by without messing up it's day.
They do not hurt them i won't allow that, but they carry them around for hours and that has to be humiliating for the snake.

There used to be a beautiful snake here called a green tree snake. I used to find them all summer and make pets of them for a few days. I haven't seen on for probably 15 or 20 years. they were only about the size of a pencil.

Mostly Corn, Garter, and Blue Racers here.
