I can say it boots from power down faster then booting from restart; strange. From powerdown, it even boots faster then 8.1 did and 8.1 was fast. Not sure why my sound temporarily worked in my VM before Virtualbox crashed my OS and I had do a hardbutton powerdown and lost my sound again (hope VB patches their issues with Win10 soon; I know they are fully aware of those said issues). Hopefully, my sound in the VMs will come back again and I will be happy long enough until Virtualbox updates 5.0x. That said, I have not regrets, but I am a Windows guy. To each his own Tux. M$ needed you to have an account with them since Win8/8.1, so that was no shock to me. I actually created an account with them since Win7 in order to have OneDrive so had that same account since Win7. It's associated with my main email address as you indicated Tux.

I have been trying to update my husbands Windows 8.1 pc for 3 days now. I am going around circles and still no luck. I have 4 failed windows 10 updates now in my windows update history so I have no idea what to do next. I see Lyle that you went into details of the failed update, what did you do there to make it work. Do you remember the steps?
Anyway, I would never give up my beloved Fedora to go back to Windoze unless I am unable to install the new versions myself.

If you go to update history Molly, there was a link at the place where the update failed as I recall which led to being able to install it directly. Don't recall the exact details and I cannot, obvously, step you through them now unfortunately. I think you'll get it to work. Will take an hour or so to install. The fact you are getting this error means all the files for installing the OS is already on your husband's computer so no additional downloads will be needed.

Lyle, I downloaded the tool and ran it and it said update installed. If it is where the heck is it. This is frustrating.

Just wish I remembered what I clicked on Molly; thought it was a link in the actually update history where you clicked on the failed update for details and then there was other links there.

We got it to start downloading, we found the place where that updatenow was and clicked that, it downloaded for about an hr then it turned off and Neil thought it wasn't working so he turned it back on. I guess he shouldn't have done that because it came up with an error that he forgot to write down and so they started the download over and that is what it is doing right now.
Gosh, I think this is so stupid. Microsoft are the ones that made such a mess as creating such a stupid OSS like Windows 8, they should be delivering the thing right to the door and installing them for you. Thank God for Linux.

If your using Windows 10 consider disabling Windows Update Delivery Optimization.
To disable Windows Update Delivery Optimization, use the following steps:

• Open up Settings and click Update & Security.
• Click Windows Update section to the left and then the Advanced options link to the right.
• Click Choose how updates are delivered.
• You can opt to completely disable WUDO by flicking the toggle switch to the Off position.
• Alternatively, you can continue to share updates you have downloaded to other computers you own but disabled sharing to others by leaving this toggle in the On position and selecting the PCs on my local network option.

When you got the fail update, that should have meant all the files were already on your system Molly. They were already on mine. After the download, expect anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour for the install to complete. Mine took an hour, but I do have a log of programs on my system. Glad you got the install link working.

Mine says 'Good to Go' but I can't see a download thingy. Isn't in my windows updates either. Will it be there when it is ready?

We ran the update again and it went through all the stuff then when we got to the part where it said it was ready to install, we clicked that and the install started and lasted about 15 minutes then the pc completely shut down. I was told to let it do is thing and when we fired it back up this morning, it reverted back to windoze 8.1 with this message "OXCC 1900101-0x2007 The installation failed in the SAF_OS phase with an error during installed drivers operation." I googled the message but it didn't make any sense so I guess we are back to square one.

Ouch; how old is your system itself Molly (not Win8.1 obviously; just the computer). Read somewhere that if you machine's older then 4 years then don't even bother to install Win10.

It is not quite 2 yrs old yet Lyle... cost over $1000 to get that sick Windows 8.1
